HyQu projects FAQ

Q: Who do I send my application to?
A: Send your application by email to Prof. Chu.

Q: What material should I send? Transcripts? Motivation letter?
A: Transcripts from your bachelor and, if applicable, your master studies, along with a CV (or, if you don’t have a CV, describe if you have any relevant skills or experience, like programming, a hands-on lab project, etc.)

Q: Can I express my interest for more than a project?
A: Yes, in your application you can specify up to two/three projects you are interested in.

Q: When is the deadline for submitting my application? Other open houses are in XX weeks from now.
A: Typically, the earlier the better. We’ll offer projects within a week after the open house, and ask for a response about a week later. If someone declines or doesn’t respond, we’ll offer the projects to someone else.

Q: When will I know if I was selected for a project in the group?
A: See previous question.

Q: When does the project start/end?
A: The project is meant to be carried out during the spring or fall semester, however we can be flexible on the exact start/end day. It just needs to be agreed on with your project supervisor. Note that you have to finish the project before the deadline imposed by when you register for it.

Q: How long will the project last?
A: Project duration is determined by the regulations for your degree program. Please check on the relevant website or ask your study office. We will not keep track of exactly how much time you spend on the project. It is your responsibility to make sure you register for the project and meet the deadline.

Q: Can I follow lectures during my Master thesis project?
A: Yes, provided that this does not take away a significant amount of time from the project. Typically, you are allowed to follow one lecture.

Q: I like one of the project, but I am not sure I have the competences to carry it out.
A: Unless specified, projects do not require previous experience or specific prerequisites. The goal is that you learn something new, with the help of your project supervisor. If we offer you a project, it means we believe you can do it!
